Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire is coming out April 2!

In Honor of Walking Disaster (Travis's point of view)  the sequel to Beautiful Disaster coming out April 2 ( pre-order now), I thought we should look at one of my first reviews since I started this blog a couple months ago, if for some reason you have not read the first yet..
As you can tell this is one of my must reads, FIVE STARS BABY..

I was asked by a friend why I liked this book so much, I told them Travis was a "ride or die" type of guy and I love it when the male lead pulls no punches for his women.  He also was a big old teddy bear when it all came down to it, I have already re-read this book maybe 3 or 4 times and it puts a smile on my face each time.  Now the author has allowed us to find out what Travis was thinking and why he chose his path in this story. I will post my review on the release date.

* Buy the way I believe this book will be turned into a movie, "sign" ;-)

Beautiful Disaster
by Jamie McGuire
✩✩✩✩✩

O.M.G. I loved this book, I was yelling at both Travis and Abby while reading.  There was some “you need Jesus moments to Travis”, and some “You really need to talk to someone about you issues with someone” to both characters.  When Abby was going through her back and for with Travis she was getting on my last nerve but I could not believe I was rooting for a man whore in the processes.  The author panted a good picture to understand that Travis has some deep rooted issues that for some reason was trying to work through them on his own with the fighting, schoolings, and his relationship with Abby.  I was like “come on you have got to be kidding me” during a certain seen in the book but yet I believe if I was Abby and trying to do the same thing and play like I did not care I would the same thing but I would for damn sure make him get tested! Favorite quotes:

“As worried as I was that you’d never speak to me again... I think it worse that you’re indifferent”.

This was said after the “incident” do not want to give away the story.

“Pigeon?” I said, “An annoying bird that craps all over the sidewalk.”
“You like Pigeon,” he said defensively. “It’s a dove, an attractive girl, a winning card in a poker, take your pick. You’re my Pigeon”

:-)

Ok to sum this up, if you love fighters, tattoo wearing guys, Vegas gambling, the college experience, and some co-dependency going on you will love this book, I know I did.  Travis is H.O.T with a badd ass Alpha male swagger and will fight for the one he loves...

Beautiful Disaster:
INTENSE. DANGEROUS. ADDICTIVE. 437 pages, language, fighting, sexual scene
From Goodreads:
Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Wide Awake by Shelly Crane
***** 5 stars

When this book hit Amazon Saturday night, I quickly downloaded it. I was waiting for one of my favorite Young Adult authors - Shelly Crane - to write another book. I am a big fan of the “Significance Series “, the “Devour Series”, and the "The Collide Series” she has written, and I was waiting for more.

After reading this book, I found out that the author was being treated for a tumor in her head while writing this book, which leads me to my review.  She defiantly had insight on the goings-on in the hospital which was perfect fit for the setting of this book.  It is about a girl named Emma who wakes up in a hospice and has been in a coma for 6 months and does not know who she is or anyone in her life.  Her friends and some of her family members thought she was going to die, but when she awakes she starts the journey of getting to know who she was and who she is now. Emma’s family, friends , and even her dog are so eager to have the old Emma back, but when you read the book you will find out what she discovers about herself.

The author goes into detail about her relationships with her family members and their relationship with Emma, a 19 teen year old who is trying to process what is going on in her life.  During this process she has an instant connection with her occupational therapist Mason and not sure why at first but the author does a good job making you want to figure out the whole time why there is such a connection. This is what I like in this book; it keeps me engaged of the unknowing and eager to find out why. I must say I was hoping more to the counselor’s and Mason’s relationship would be revealed; it was kinda vague on what was going on with those too.  I have some great favorite parts I like in the book:

I never thought I’d meet someone like you.” I thought about making a joke, but the tension between us wasn’t the kind you wanted to be rid of, it was the kind you wanted to bathe in. I waited for him to continue, because I knew he would. “I always thought I’d be alone forever, never finding someone who saw me. Girls see me now with the tattooed biker friends and think that I’m like that, that I’m something I’m not. And then...I always thought one day that the guilt would be too much and I’d choke on it.”

The author did something cleaver and each chapter had some

“useless facts”, but once you read the book it makes since.  My favorite is

“It is impossible to lick your elbow and 75% of people who read this will try to anyway”

Of course I had to try it and no I could not lick my elbow, lol!

Getting back to the story, this is a love story, discovery of self, and loving and accepting yourself kinda story and just up my alley.  I don’t want to give the story away because there will be some unexpected turn of events which make this book a 5 star book. Glad to hear that the author is on the road to recovery and look forward to more work from her soon.

Leave a comment and will dish about this book.

Shelly Crane's New book "Wide Awake" is out!

Drum roll please Shelly Crane, one of my favorite young adult authors (author of the Significance series) her new book came out today!

Amazon and Smashwords has it for only  $3.99

A girl.
         A coma.
                 A life she can't remember.

Strangers show up and claim to be her parents, but she can't remember them. She can't remember anyone. Not her friends, not even her boyfriend. Even though she can't remember, everyone wants her to just pick up where she left off, but what she learns about the 'old her' makes her start to wish she'd never woken up. Her boyfriend breaks up with the new girl he's dating to be with her, her parents want her to start planning for college, her friends want their leader back, and her physical therapist with the hazel eyes keeps his distance to save his position at the hospital.

Bared to You and Reflected in You (Crossfire #1,#2)

"Bared to You" and "Reflected in You" (Crossfire series 1, 2) review

****

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires. The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

Sounds like Fifty Shades, right?  Well this story is not like that, the big difference is that both main characters are wounded.  I do believe this book is better written than Fifty Shades, but it did not have that fast-paced beat to it that Fifty Shades did. In my opinion it’s a lot worse and more explicit than Fifty. I read both Crossfire series books and still don’t feel I understand what’s going on with the male main character Gideon. I’m hoping when the last book comes out I will find out.

So in a nut shell, the book was not bad but it was not great.  I thought it was going to get me excited like Fifty Shades did, but it fell short.  I will still read it but understand it ain’t Fifty.

The last installment is coming out soon, even though it wasn't as great as Fifty Shades to me I want to find out what happens.

June 4, 2013 release date for "Entwined" The third and final Crossfire Series book.

The author Pepper Pace is taking a break

I received a message in my inbox today regarding the status of one of my favorite authors Pepper Pace,  below is the message she sent to all her fans.  You can see my reviews of her work under my review tab, the books I did the review on her book "Wheels of Steel" and "Juicy".  Can't wait tell she is back up and running.

(Pepper Pace's message to her fans)

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I won't be very active for a while. A lot of my readers stopped by Monday for the next update of Adaptation. I'm sure that there were many disappointed people and for that I apologize, especially since I put myself on a writing schedule that I am unable to honor

I will be out of commission for a while and I don't want to have you keep checking back each Monday for the next update of Adaptation. For the time being I will not be writing. Sadly, I have bitten off so much in my personal life that my first love--writing has to take a back seat. It is very apparent to me that I can't do a half-assed job as a writer; it has to be all or nothing. I refuse to write a lot of crap just for the sake of writing.

Before I disappear for a while I want you to know that I have been so blessed with you as my fans. I am truly appreciative of all of the wonderful reviews that my stories bring I am so thankful for your support in buying my stories. I haven't been nearly as good to you as you have been to me and I truly mean that.  You are the best fans that a writer can have!

When I do return I intend to up the ante. There may not be as much--but the quality will be much better. You deserve my best and not forced stories!

I'll talk to you later and I appreciate you,

PP

Fighting for Flight

Fighting for Flight by J.B. Salsbury ****
(Finally a real fighters romance story)

What happens when in order to win, you’re forced to lose?

The only daughter of an infamous Las Vegas pimp, Raven Morretti grew up an outsider. Liberated from the neglectful home of her prostitute mother, she finds solace as a mechanic. With few friends, she’s content with the simple life. Flying under the radar is all she knows, and more than she expects.

Until she catches the eye of local celebrity, UFL playboy Jonah Slade.

Weeks away from his title fight, Jonah is determined to stay focused on everything he’s trained so hard to achieve. Undefeated in the octagon, he’s at the height of his career. But resisting Raven’s effortless allure and uncomplicated nature is a fight he can’t win.

Jonah trades in his bad-boy reputation and puts his heart on the line. But when her father contacts her, setting in motion the ugly truth of her destiny, Jonah must choose. In a high-stakes gamble where love and freedom hang in the balance, a war is waged where the price of losing is a fate worse than death.

Will the hotheaded Jonah be able to restrain his inner fighter to save the woman he loves?

Or will Raven be forced into a life she’s been desperate to avoid?

So, I came to find this book on Amazon when I was looking for some fighter romance books. I have read some already and would pick apart the books about how real or not I felt they were.  I read the introduction above and was very skeptical at first, but was pleasantly surprised in the end.

I love it when I can connect with a book and it took me back in time when I myself used to be a fighter.  I would train with MMA fighters like the book described and even traveled with my team of MMA fighters.  During that experience we were very much in each other’s lives because of all the training hours we spent together, and to be on top you had to keep in the zone.  Getting back to the book, the author writes about a romance between Jonah “The Assassin” (every good fighter has a hook name) and Raven with supporting friends like Blake (which is the next spin off book) with behaviors and mannerism of some true fighters I do know.  I do think the one female MMA fighter that was introduced in the book was crazy.

“It doesn’t matter how you were raised or who you were raised by.  All that matters is who you are now”.
“The woman I see right now, she’s something special.”

These are some of the sweet statements Jonah -  who has never had a serious relationship in his life - says about Raven.  Both characters have tragic histories but came up on top in the end.  Not to give away the book but you will find out that in the end working together on their issues rather than in secret worked better. I was happy to read at the end that the author is writing another book about Blake, who was the comic relief in this book. Below is a mini doc of Brandon "Rukus" Thatch a bad-ass MMA fighterThe YouTube doc reminds me of the scene the book that describes Jonah getting ready for his fight for the title. Also, Brandon reminds me of Blake, the character who the author is currently working on a sequal for. What do you think?

St. Patrick's Day Romance book of the day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to my Irish friends and to the people who like to celebrate! I picked a Romance book of that is part of a series that is inspired by this day. The author of this book also wrote Black Butterfly one of the books to read after Fifty Shades.

An imperfect romance can be the sweetest love. The anticipated sequel to Funny Valentine is here…

Back then, there wasn’t a prison wall dense enough to keep me from dreaming. And you know what? Princess was always there. Didn’t know her name, couldn’t tell you what she looked like, but I knew how I wanted love between my woman and me to feel.

In my dreams, Princess would give me a baby of my own. My moms would have the grandbaby she always wanted. My brother Nicky was alive. Just random stuff that wasn’t supposed to be my life. Now I’m living it, minus my family, that is. I’m living my dream. And this man knows how to love and appreciate...

Melvin Reed is grateful for a second chance at happiness. A wife and kid is more than he ever thought possible, after the crimes and sins he’d committed. But that’s all changed. Now he’s well on his way to having it all. What he doesn’t understand is his lady’s determination to delve into a past he wishes to leave behind. Who cares if they’re different? For Melvin she’s perfectly matched for him in every way.

Tia Jackson Reed has it all. A husband she loves, a new baby on the way, and a life full of love. Married for just over four weeks, she’s determined to explore all the different levels of marital bliss. And to Tia, celebrating their cultural differences is the key. So she enlists the help of her sisters to bring in a new tradition for the Jackson family: St. Patrick’s Day.

Will Tia’s plans for St. Patrick’s Day bring them face to face with the worst part of Mel, or unify them even more?
What did you do to celebrate the day?

Twin Cities Live Book Club Meet review!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of going to the Twin Cities Live Book Club meeting for the first time.  From what I understand, this is their third time meeting and it keeps growing in attendees every time.

Weeks before our meeting, our host Elizabeth Ries interviewed the author of our book discussed, “On the Island” by Tracey Gravis-Graves, on the Twins Cities Live show.
Yesterday, we had discussion questions; we broke out in groups and discussed the book and it was a lot of what-would-you-do questions.

I meet some very nice ladies next to me who loved to read like me and we had a great time discussing the book, and excited about our upcoming new book.  I had the privilege of showing my table mates a picture of Tracey’s new book cover for “Covet”, that will be coming out in September and they read a little bit about the story from my iPad mini, and now we’re all excited to see what else she has coming out.  Very proud of the fact that she self-published and is now doing well, which made everyone from my table think big about their own possible success in their careers.

Let’s talk about the new book : “The Lighthouse Road” by Peter Geye, a local Minnesota author.  We were that the author will be on TCL at 3:00pm today, so I will be excited to hear from him about his work.  I do know that he will be at our next book club meeting to answer questions meet sometime in June; I will mark my calendar once I get an exact date and this time I’ll bring my book friends!  Below is a little about the book I found on Goodreads site.

Against the wilds of sea and wood, a young immigrant woman settles into life outside Duluth in the 1890s, still shocked at finding herself alone in a new country, abandoned and adrift; in the early 1920s, her orphan son, now grown, falls in love with the one woman he shouldn’t and uses his best skills to build them their own small ark to escape. But their pasts travel with them, threatening to capsize even their fragile hope. In this triumphant new novel, Peter Geye has crafted another deeply moving tale of a misbegotten family shaped by the rough landscape in which they live--often at the mercy of wildlife and weather--and by the rough edges of their own breaking hearts.

Thank you again, Elizabeth, for starting the book club and making us feel comfortable with great food and book talk.

Gabriel’s Inferno and Gabriel’s Rapture

Gabriel’s Inferno and Gabriel’s Rapture
by Sylvain Reynard
*****

Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well-respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption. When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide. An intriguing and sinful exploration of seduction, forbidden love and redemption, "Gabriel's Inferno" is a captivating and wildly passionate tale of one man's escape from his own personal hell as he tries to earn the impossible...forgiveness and love.

Now these are good reads after Fifty Shades of Grey.  This story is based on a sexy professor who also you will learn has some power and a very angel-like female character contrast.  At first when I was reading this I was not sure if I could follow; it talks a lot about Dante’s work in literature, and I was no were near an English major. I was lost on the whole Dante talk but after reading I did Google it and I learned a little more because it was really sexy. The main male character Gabriel speaks a lot in what I call ‘Dante talk’ to his lady love and lost some of the enduring comments, but knowing that was nice - I at least understood that much.  I did like the journey of the story; it was well written and you did not know where things were going until you were right up on the situation.  It was an easy read and if you want something soothing and gentle this book is for you.

The first book not really any sexual content but the second not so much.  For adults only.

Let me know what you think?

"Covet" by Travis Garvis-Graves and Author of "On The Island"

So Excited- the Big reveal of Travis Garvis-Graves new book  "Covet" was revealed today.  I think the cover is so beautiful.. You can go to my review tab and read my review on the her first book "On The Island".

What if the life you wanted, and the woman you fell in love with, belonged to someone else?

Chris and Claire Canton’s marriage is on life support. Downsized during the recession and out of work for a year, Chris copes by retreating to a dark place where no one can reach him, not even Claire. When he’s offered a position that will keep him away from home four nights a week, he dismisses Claire’s concern that time apart could be the one thing their fragile union can’t weather. Their suburban life may look idyllic on the outside, but Claire has never felt so disconnected from Chris, or so lonely.

Local police officer Daniel Rush used to have it all, but now he goes home to an empty house every night. He pulls Claire over during a routine traffic stop, and they run into each other again at the 4th of July parade. When Claire is hired to do some graphic design work for the police department, her friendship with Daniel grows, and soon they’re spending hours together.

Claire loves the way Daniel makes her feel, and the way his face lights up when she walks into the room. Daniel knows that Claire’s marital status means their relationship will never be anything other than platonic. But it doesn’t take long before Claire and Daniel are in way over their heads, and skating close to the line that Claire has sworn she’ll never cross. Release date: September 17, 2013

Twilight junkies or people who like Young Adult Paranormal:

The new Stephanie Myers (author of the Twilight series) movie coming out March 29th is named "The Hoist"; check out the trailer - there are some really good actors and the Sci-Fi tricks look great!  Below is the trailer.

You already know about one of the newest crazes in the Young Adult book genre - movies based on books, like The Hunger Games books written by Suzanne Collins. The second movie installment of The Hunger Games will be out at the end of the year.

There are some new kids on the block to look out for: "Divergent" is a book series by Veronica Roth that will be made into a movie which will be in the movie theaters on March 24th, 2014; they have so far casted Kate Winslet and Shailene Woodley.

I am so excited about this next one: the "Significance Series" by Shelly Crane will be made into a movie also. If you have not read her work yet, you will not be disappointed if you like the above books.  Below is a little about the book and on my right it was just announced that Mr. Jeremy Sumpter who will play to main lead "Caleb" in the movie. Let the dreamy sighs commence..

Maggie is a seventeen year old girl who's had a bad year. She was smart and on track, but then her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating - barely - and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football scholarship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has.

Then she saves the life of Caleb and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally.

They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. The Greatest  "Alpha Male Books"

I think about this subject and I always come up with the author Kristen Ashley.  This lady hits the mark on the "Alpha Males" in her books every time and have the best stories to boot.  I also like the fact that she places most her books in Colorado where I used to live during my grad school days and could relate to the character locations and culture.  She is funny sharp and VERY descriptive in her books.  What's your favorite "Alpha Male" books? Here are a couple of mine.

Kristen Ashley's lasted is RAID that just came out February 28th this past month it typical great "Alpha Male" read and part three of her (Unfinished Hero Series).  Check out the description on this steamy read.

Hanna Boudreaux has lived in the small town of Willow, Colorado all her life. The great-granddaughter of the town matriarch, she's sweet, cute and quiet.

Too quiet.

Hanna has a moment of epiphany when she realizes her crush for forever, Raiden Ulysses Miller, is not ever going to be hers. She sees her life as narrow and decides to do something about it.

Raiden Miller is the town of Willow's local hero. An ex-marine with the medal to prove his hero status, he comes home, shrouded in mystery. It takes a while but, eventually, Hanna catches his eye.

But after all these years of Raid and Hanna living in the same town, the question is, why? Is Raid interested in Hanna because she's sweet and cute? Or does Raid have something else going on?

This has some BDSM

Reckless, by S.C. Stephens the last and final installment of the Thoughtless Series is here.

It is with heavy heart to say goodbye to Kellen and the DBags in this story.  I can't imagine what the author might be going through writing the last book.  I was stuck today in my home because of a snow storm and was so happy to be able to finish the book today.  I will write more of a my review soon.  I can say this without spoiling to book that I went though all the emotions and delight I love in a book.  This by far is winning best book for 2013! I am breathing hard and trying to calm my pulse after this read but so worth the time and all 494 pages of it. I was not surprised when I saw that the author thanked Nicky Charles who is one of my favorite authors which you can check our of free reads tab. Below are a little about each book from the series.

Thoughtless
For almost two years now, Kiera's boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she's ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he's purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes...and none of them will ever be the same

Effortless
After being caught in the middle of a love triangle which led to a devastating betrayal, Kiera pledged to learn from the mistakes she’d made. She was determined to never again inflict that kind of pain on anyone, especially the soulful, talented man who held her heart. But life offers new challenges for every relationship, and when Kiera’s love is put to the ultimate test, will it survive? Love is easy . . . trust is hard.

Reckless
When the band hits it big, Kiera and Kellan must ask themselves: Can their love for each other survive the constant pressures of superstardom? The friendships they've formed, the new family they've found, and the history they've forged will all play a part in helping them navigate the turbulent waters of the band's exploding popularity. A greedy executive hell-bent on success, a declining pop star looking for an edge, and a media circus that twists lies into truths are just some of the obstacles the lovers will have to overcome if they are going to remain together. Fame comes with a price-but will it cost Kiera and Kellan everything
